The Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in the year 1815. Though the Netherlands remained neutral in world war one, it suffered invasion and occupation by Germany. The country was a founding member of NATO and the EEC, which is now known as EU.
The Netherlands took active participation in the introduction of the euro in 1999. It has Belgium and Germany as its neighbors and is flanked by the North Sea on one side. Holland is a province of the Netherlands, though people in other parts of the world often erroneously consider Holland as the name of the country.
Holland is a place with many tourist attractions. It has some very beautiful cities to its credit. Many towns of Holland are still surrounded by canals and castle walls.
Most of the land is under sea level and is held in the form of polders.
The beauty of the cities lies in the fact that even though they are modern in facilities, they have a quaint old world charm to them. This makes tourists feel as if they have gone back in time to the Holland of the 17th century.
